Todd Wood opening new 'creationist' school?

Postby cathy » Tue May 14, 2013 7:58 pm

Found this info on Biblical creation ministries website. ~They were advertising some course to prove the histrorical Adam and YEC rubbish blah, blah blah, but amongst the excited hype about real Adam excited blah, excited blah etc was one nugget of real info about a newly launched academy thing by almost socially acceptable and sometimes honest creationist Todd Wood
Created by Dr Todd Wood, president of the newly launched Core Academy of Science, this self-guided short course consists of six hour-long sessions, with optional quizzes to evaluate your learning.

Is this new or does it just look it? Heres the website.

Not looked at it yet, but at first sight it could be something for the Trade Descriptions Act. The creationists are so despicable, deliberately naming things the exact opposite of what they are. Where's the Biblical precedent for that?

Sounds like one of these new-fangled MOOCs. Maybe creationists are moving into MOOC-space!

Ye gods and little unevolved fishes - now they have a Creationist Biology Society, http://www.creationbiology.org/ They even have a Journal, but it seems to have had only one issue, devoted to "Did Adam and Eve Really Exist?". Did their Journal really exist?

Later: does Todd Wood really exist? His advertised page of publications seems designed to obstruct any attempts to read it - the text is almost invisible until you remove any page style.
As far as I can make out, his expertise is in computer science - yet
another engineer, more or less - and his publications
http://coresci.academia.edu/ToddWood include this:
Baraminology, the Image of God, and Australopithecus sediba
T.C. Wood
Center for Origins Research, Bryan College, Dayton, TN
Abstract
Previous research in hominid baraminology has been sharply criticized by other creationists, especially concerning the proposal to include A. sediba in the human holobaramin. These criticisms can be summarized as concernsover methodology, theological objections, and rejection of speciation among human lineages. Methodologicalconcerns, though reasonable, can be recognized and at least partially overcome.
Theological objections regardingthe image of God or the doctrine of salvation simply fail as valid reasons to reject human baraminology. Concernsover human speciation similarly are not adequate refutations of human baraminology. To advance creationis tunderstanding of baraminology, a new way of explaining the research program of statistical baraminology isintroduced: testing the discontinuity hypothesis, the idea that God created organisms in discrete, recognizablegroups.

Oh, and I can only see ten publications listed, not the "more than 40" claimed. None of which seem to be about real science,

Note that Todd Wood is one of the few honest creationists. That is, he does understand the biology, doesn't tell whopping lies, and does admit that he's trying to fit the facts within a biblical framework. Too bad he's so invested in baraminology. Why, given all this, his head doesn't explode, I don't know, but if people are going to attend "creationist school" it might as well be with Wood. At least they'll learn some rational modes of thought.
