Latest mutterings from Dr. Derek

Postby Peter Henderson » Wed Jul 31, 2013 11:39 pm

He appears to have had me suspended completely from UK Christians:

If you are a Bible believing Christian then you must accept that all of the Bible, including Genesis, is true. The creation itself and the fall are central to our beliefs, with evolution there was no 'Fall' because we are what we have become. If there was no fall, then there is no need for redemption, and no need for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Evolution makes our faith false, even the so called Theistic Evolution, makes a Saviour excess to requirements. No perfect creation > No Fall > we are as God intended us to be = NO redemption through the death and resurrection of the Christ. These events are the central pillar of our faith.

Comments please?

He appears to be stating that unless you are a young Earth creationist you aren't really saved.

What a thoroughly nasty individual.

Saying things like this - defending the Bible's authority against 'watering down'/'compromise' (the Bible being a book where theology is intertwined with 'origins issues' even though the Bible is not a scientific text) - might put potential Christians OFF becoming Christians! Not everyone wants to embrace a faith that appears to require you to become an anti-science bigot (some DO it seems).

No doubt Dr Blake was targeting professing Christians - but his words are in the public domain ie they can be read online by anyone.

As old Earth creationists and theistic evolutionists tend to make clear on their websites, how (if at all) a person regards the opening chapters of Genesis is NOT a 'salvation issue' ie it is NOT part of 'receiving the gospel' and 'receiving Christ'.

And as long as you don't read articles by Philip Bell, even young Earth creationists tend to grudgingly admit that the age of the Earth and evolution-rejection are not salvation issues.
