Another clumsy YEC attempt to falsify carbon dating

http://blog.drwile.com/lightning-a-natu ... r-reactor/ 'Lightning: A Natural Nuclear Reactor!'
"... Thus, we can now state with some confidence that lightning strikes produce carbon-14!
Why is this interesting? Well, I have been told since I was a university student that radioactive dating systems are generally not affected by what happens on earth, since there just isn’t enough energy in terrestrial events to affect nuclear systems. Thus, the radioactive dating systems that we use to establish the age of fossils and rocks cannot be significantly affected by terrestrial events. We can now say with some confidence that this just isn’t true. Lightning strikes clearly produce enough energy to affect nuclear systems, and based on the data given in this study, it is affecting one that is used for radioactive dating (the carbon-14 system)."

That makes sense scientifically but appears not to help the wider 'case' for YEC-ism and the Earth only being 'biblically' old.

The article was flagged at 'The Question Evolution Project' and then mocked here at 'The Question Evolution Project Debunked':

I have seen attempts by YECs to claim there was a lot less carbon-14 in the atmosphere during 'Noah's Flood' than today - thus meaning that the amount of decay now observed to have occurred took less time than we assume (ie a period within 'biblical timescales' and never tens of thousands of years). But Wile is trying to argue for MORE atmospheric carbon-14 than previously understood, because of lightning (and gamma rays).

Wile appears either confused or unaware of what other YECs have suggested eg here:
http://www.creationmoments.com/radio/tr ... oahs-flood
"In addition, the processes at work during Noah's Flood would have lowered the availability of carbon-14 to living things, which would also help account for the shortage of carbon-14."

Thus when somebody comments under his blog post: "Interesting. Some Flood models propose Noah’s Flood was also accompanied by hyper-volcanism. Volcanoes are associated with intense lightning activity. Could this be a possible mechanism for a rapid increase in 14C during that time which then affects radio-carbon dating?" Wile replies: "That's certainly a possibility."

I guess there must have been MUCH LESS lightning during Noah's Flood than is seen in the atmosphere today. Despite all that biblical rain and unbiblical volcanism.

Meanwhile, never mind nitrogen-14 (the isotope most commonly found in Earth's atmosphere and the one Wile is discussing), I've also spotted an interesting story regarding nitrogen-15:

Regular readers will know that Wile - to whom this is being sent - ALWAYS censors and ignores any comment I may make.

"“Enoto and colleagues’ discovery is important because it unveils a previously unknown natural source of isotopes in the atmosphere, in addition to the irradiation of Earth by cosmic rays,” Babich wrote in the commentary.
These reactions show us a natural source for generating carbon, oxygen, and nitrogen isotopes that we'd previously never been able to confirm...".
