Grindon Hall to double up?

Postby Brian Jordan » Mon Jan 06, 2014 5:25 pm

They're thinking about it, with a view to opening a second school in September. But no teaching creationism - that was a "mischievous" claim, they say. http://news.tes.co.uk/news_blog/b/weblog/archive/2014/01/02/free-school-once-at-centre-of-creationism-row-to-set-up-new-branch.aspx?

But there was a dodgy incident with the Christian Schools Trust this year that wasn't really dealt with.

And 75 appeals? Any good school would expect that and wouldn't be allowed to open a new site

.....And Michael "want to open a school and teach pretty much what you think with public money" Gove has the nerve to complain about ideological bias in history!

Another interesting story here: the new head of a newly-merged academy on Tyneside has stepped down after just a term. The academy is sponsored by a Christian charity and the man has been said to have been over-egging the pudding with religion even by their standards.

Not our concern, apart from a regret that messing with education leads to things like this. However, this anecdote elsewhere suggests that it might be:
I actually know somebody who works at Kings Priory. They told me recently that Dawes was a bloody nightmare, putting religion and prayer at the heart of everything that went on at the school. The subject of evolution was, apparently, verboten...

Here's a report with a confirming claim:
Mum-of-two Dawn Gardner, from Tynemouth, whose eldest son is at the school, said she was surprised by his sudden dearture.

She said: “He wanted to make it highly religious.

“Christianity comes in lots of different formats and he was forgetting about the other children of faith and of those no denomination.

“It was creationalist and this wasn’t what I wanted for my child

It might be significant that Dawes had arrived from Bede Academy, Blythe, run by the Emmanuel Schools Foundation. The shadow of Vardy looms large.

Worryingly so. Still a need to be vigilant.
