YEC Nelson McCausland appointed to the board of the Educatio

Postby Peter Henderson » Tue Jul 17, 2018 8:48 pm

"Nelson McCausland, a young Earth creationist who once, as Minister of Culture, wrote to the curator of the Ulster Museum about a creationist exhibit (and was rebuffed), has been appointed to the Educational Authority, which overseas NI schools."

There's a passing mention of creationism during this programme (currently showing on the BBC Red Button or it can be watched on iplayer):

Talking (more nonsense) about the Giant's Causeway:
https://answersingenesis.org/geology/na ... 1946062906
"The “causeway” is part of a massive basalt deposit, known as the Thulean Plateau, estimated to cover 700,000 square miles (1,800,000 km2) and be nearly half a mile thick. Where did all this material come from? We simply don’t see anything on that scale today.
The Flood of Noah’s day produced just the right conditions. As the earth’s plates moved rapidly apart (opening up the Atlantic Ocean), huge fissures opened in the crust. Massive amounts of thick lava flowed through these openings into the North Atlantic, covering Greenland, Iceland, western Scotland, and northeast Ireland. These land areas were closer together then but shifted apart as the plates continued to move at the Flood’s end and rapidly decelerated in the early post-Flood era.
The basalt lavas here did not erupt violently, but instead poured out of the ground like a thin oil (similar to the volcanoes in Hawaii today, but on a much larger scale). Eruptions were intermittent in pulses, as seven successive flows, most of them measuring nearly 100 feet (30 m) thick, stacked on top of one another. Later erosion exposed some of the columns that formed within these layers."

And does this Snelling geological 'science' even match anything Genesis says about the flood of Noah? Earlier in the 'Answers Magazine' article Snelling admits: "Several lines of evidence indicate that Giant’s Causeway formed during several volcanic eruptions [he refers to seven successive flows] that occurred in rapid succession. After each eruption, the thick basalt started to congeal, cool, and harden, aided by being briefly covered with water, before the next lava flow covered it."

So instead of a YEC 'oscillating' flood with the waters temporarily receding, now we have another YEC flood that involves around seven huge volcanic eruptions, between which the erupted material was briefly covered with water. Which is no more 'biblical' than a purely regional Noah's flood.

YEC is not really Bible. It's attacking and 'refuting' science disliked by fundamentalists.
